Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

New LP from Beak.
Weirdly at times sounding a little like subdued Kurt C fronting Can or something ( Brean Down/Harvester) and at other times like the Blade Runner ost if Golan-Globus had produced it. (quite good)
I've been keen to check out Beak> for quite a while. Just saw their new one in the Wayside Music catalog and got me thinking about it again. Gonna dive in soon!

Now playing: THE HOSPITALS - I've Visited the Island of Jocks and Jazz

Very unusual and inspired noise rock, what some have termed "shitgaze". Ah genres... gotta love em.

this last one is a private press record from 1977 called Synthesis by Dave Bryan, got a sealed copy for 15 bucks. I saw that someone recently paid 90 bucks for a used copy, so I'm happy I found it for such a good price

Colin Newman | It Seems (1988)

This album came out within the first year I became a huge Wire fan, so I grabbed it straight away. Getting into the early edgy Wire stuff and the 80s sophisticated synth rock version at the same time was quite an education. This falls squarely in the synth category and it captivated me with its philosophical, Zen-like lyrics. I often turn to it when I need a chill out.

Side note: I still think it’s kinda funny that one of the main things that got me to buy my first Wire album (A Bell is a Cup) was the hype sticker on the cover with a quote from Michael Stipe. REM had recently covered Strange on their Document album, and they were fans. It caught my attention, and I’m glad it did.
