Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

One of my all-time favorites. Nominally a jazz album, but it's oh so much more. It's a triple album with a hundred different musicians, including a few from the rock world (Jack Bruce, Linda Ronstadt, Don Preston, et al). All the vocal tracks (most of them have vocals) are voiced by a dozen different "characters" in the loose story-line of madness and debauchery. It's just nuts. Can't praise it enough.

Not easy to find cheaply on vinyl, but I finally got a copy off Discogs a few months ago - I have the CD too, which is also pretty rare now, but I found that about 25 years ago. Now I just need the 8-track and I'm set. :D

Avant Garde from Brazil. I've gotten to be good friends with this guy too - I think I'm one of the few folks keeping him in business haha

Tomo Akikawabaya's "the castle"

This guy's an obscure minimal synth/synthpop artist from Japan; his style is VERY reminiscent of John Maus', to the point where I wonder if John hasn't actually listened to his music at some point. If you check the album's RYM page you'll see I'm not the only one who thinks that, lel
