Maus Space

I've continually had a liking for the mystical, but it wasn't until I matured a little iota that I discovered John Maus!

Wondering what everyone's favorite bass line is in an Ariel Pink song. The bass is one of my favorite elements in an Ariel song always. Wondering which ones stick out to everyone. My favorites are West Coast Calmities, strange fires, for kate I wait and the new drug dealer track "suddenly" which Ariel plays bass on

Totally, I love the jazzy bass lines. mine are Good Kids Make Bad Grownups, The People I'm Not, Gopacapulco, House Arrest, Haunted Graffiti, Artifact!, What Else Am I Not Supposed To Do?, Chart-Beep And The Ballad Of Bobby Pyn, that's just naming a few.

the ballad of bobby pyn is awesome.

i also like beefbud, hardcore pops are fun, new trumpets of time, the jazzy bit in oceans of weep, and so many more.

ariel's bass lines are unpredictable quite often with an interesting choice of notes that aren't conventional to my ears.
it's definitely a strength in his music. i like the fact that he uses walking bass lines quite a bit rather than the common single note plod (although he has used this method to great effect with a song like my molly).

Strange Fires is for sure my favorite off of Doldrums. Scared Famous is an underrated song in my opinion, some nice bass work there too. Gox2, Neverendinglovesong, I Wanna Be Young, and Crying stand out to me as well. Gold has some cool stuff too

My god yes! just listening to my disc a few nights ago, and that one is great. I wonder how he does that sound in the first 25 or so seconds. So is Birds In My Tree, anyone else getting a kinda raggae vibe from that one? Maybe I'm just having what they call a Mental Breakdown

It sounds like a keyboard organ thru a flanger to me

And you'd be correct! Ariel is a great bassist. It might have something to do with bass guit being his first instrument.
